This webpage will provide information on private one-to-one lessons with Laura Quinn at her studio. Before booking online, please contact Laura directly to enquire about dates and availability.

Whether you are new to lampworking, have been working in the flame for years, or are somewhere in between, private tuition with Laura at her studio can help to develop you skill set, navigate your artistic practice through material and process engagement, and bring an idea to life.

Together with Laura, you will decide what you will learn during the lesson. Previous private lessons have included beginner, intermediate and advanced skills in:

  • Borosilicate solid and hollow work (blown).

  • Soft glass (Bullseye/ Effetre/ COE 96).

  • Cold working processes including engraving, sawing, grinding polishing using a flat bed grinder, linisher and lathe. Cold working can be a stand-alone skill for use with pre-made, cast or factory glass, or in conjunction with lampworking).

  • Mould making for lampworking (blow moulds, stamps etc.).

  • Workshop set up and health & safety.

Lesson Duration:

Full Day- 7 hours with a 30 minute lunch break. Full day lessons usually run 10am-5pm, but the schedule can be decided to suit both parties.

Half Day- 4 hours. The schedule can be decided to suit both parties.

Price :

Full Day- £350

Half Day- £200

All materials, tools and safety equipment will provided. including kiln firing to anneal your work.

Location: The studio is based near Reading, in a beautiful village called Mortimer Common. For security reasons, exact location will be shared with you by email when you book your lesson.

Arriving by Public Transport: There are direct trains from London Paddington (25 minutes) and London Waterloo (1 hour) to Reading. From Reading you can either take a 12 minute train to Mortimer, or a 35 minute bus (Reading Bus, Lime) to Mortimer. Common. The studio is 1.4 miles from Mortimer Station train station, or the bus takes you to a stop 1 minute walk away. A lift from and back to Mortimer Station can also be arranged, please contact me directly to discuss at info@lauraquinndesign.com.

Arriving by car: There is parking on the driveway in front of the studio, on street free parking is also available. Alternatively there is a free public car park 1 minute walk from the house, beside the Fire Station.

Receiving your finished piece: Please note, your finished glass pieces will have to be annealed overnight to remove stress and strengthen them. You can choose to pick them up at an arranged time after the class, or they can be mailed out to you. Please select the appropriate option in the delivery section of your booking. To arrange collection of your piece, please contact me directly at info@lauraquinndesign.com, or we can discuss during the class.

Timing your Lesson: Please ensure you arrive 5 minutes before the start of your lesson time.

About your instructor: Laura Quinn is a multi-award-winning glass artist who creates unique glass sculptures and functional objects using a various glassmaking techniques including glassblowing and lampworking. She holds a BA in Glass Design, MA in 3D Design Crafts and Post Graduate Certificate in Creative Arts Higher Education. She is passionate about sharing the magical techniques of glassmaking with others. With over 13 years experience of working with glass, and 7 years of experience teaching, you are sure to get the most out of your lesson.

Cancellation Policy: To cancel or reschedule please contact me at least 7 days in advance of your scheduled lesson. If you cancel within 7 days of the scheduled session will not receive a refund.
